# Dust evidence and quote adjustments

Quoting · Web and mobile · 2 min read · Updated October 11, 2026

**Record when a property was last dusted. For dust older than three months, attach a photo of the dustiest area or apply your own percentage adjustment, so the price matches the work.**

Dust that has built up for months takes much longer to clean than a weekly
wipe. Dust evidence asks the question on every new quote, and makes sure heavy
dust is backed by a photo or priced in.

## Turn it on

1. Open **Settings**, then **Pricing & quotes**.
2. In **Dust evidence rules**, tick **Ask for dust evidence on new quotes**.
3. Optional: enter a **Missing-photo adjustment (%)**, for example 15. When
dust is older than three months and there is no photo, this percentage of
the labor is added to the quote.
4. Select **Save dust rules**.

If you leave the percentage empty, a photo is required for older dust. The
owner sets these rules. Each quote keeps the rule it started with, so changing
your settings later does not change quotes you already wrote.

## Record dust on a quote

On the quote, find **Dust evidence** and choose **Last dusted**:

- **Within three months**: nothing else is needed.
- **More than three months ago**: add a photo of the dustiest area, or let your
  adjustment apply.
- **Unknown**: the quote shows no price until you find out.

To add a photo, save the property on the quote first. Upload the picture with
**Add a file** in the quote's **Photos and attachments**, then choose it under
**Photo of the dustiest area**. Select **Save dust assessment**.

The photo must be a current one for that quote and property. If you change the
property, choose a new photo.

## How the adjustment shows

When the adjustment applies, it appears on the quote as its own line, so the
customer can see why the price is higher. It is added once, and your discounts
and tax apply to it as they do to the rest of the quote. If the quote mixes
taxable and tax-exempt tasks, review the tax on the quote before the adjustment
can apply.

The quote cannot be sent, shared or accepted until the dust step is complete.
That means the question is answered and, for dust older than three months,
there is a photo or your adjustment applies. Accepted quotes keep the price and photo the customer agreed to.

## On the native app

In versions with these controls, open the quote's pricing screen for the
corresponding evidence, review or first-clean card. The same role permissions
and server checks apply. Owners can also open Dust evidence rules and
Walkthrough rules from Settings; the web Settings layout above is different.
Accepted quotes keep the agreed version. If another person changes the quote,
refresh and review it before applying an old draft.

See [Native version availability](/docs/the-mobile-app).
